Summary

We have released the latest figures for the Multi-Platform Audience across print, website, tablet and smartphone. This release also features the Edition Audience across print and tablet. Both certificates represent the 6 month period from 30 Jun 2014–28 Dec 2014.

Both the Multi-Platform Audience and Edition Audience have been independently assured by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Providing greater transparency, the Multi-Platform Audience figures reveal our best estimate of the de-duplicated number of people who, in an average day or week, consume our content across all platforms.

The Edition Audience represents our best estimate of the de-duplicated number of people who consume our content via our printed newspapers and by accessing our digital content via our tablet apps only.

Background

The data provides an audience snapshot over 12 months for newspapers (Dec 13-Dec 14) and an average over 6 months (30 Jun 2014–28 Dec 2014) for websites or content accessed via tablet and/or smartphone apps.

The duplication adjustment represents the most highly engaged audience, i.e. those who, in an average day or week, engage with Times titles across multiple platforms. It is deducted from the gross audience to ensure each member of this highly engaged group is only counted once.

Methodology

The Certificates pull together audience data, adhering to the relevant NRS and ABC methodologies to provide an active, true readership of The Times and The Sunday Times.

The data also uses a major reader survey, conducted by YouGov an independent research company, to establish levels of cross platform duplication and to calculate the readers per tablet figure.

Thirdly, the data is weighted and modelled to establish the total unduplicated audience by platform, which are then published in official PwC certificates.

Both The Multi-Platform Audience and Edition Audience have been subject to independent assurance by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP UK (PwC).

Multi Platform Audience
As at Dec 2014, the Multi-Platform Audience figures for The Times stand at 1,368,537 daily readers and 3,718,872 weekly readers (Monday to Saturday). The Multi-Platform Audience for The Sunday Times is 2,922,696 weekly (7-day).

As at Dec 2014, the Edition Audience figures for The Times stand at 1,211,351 daily readers and 3,038,645 weekly readers (Monday to Saturday). The Edition Audience for The Sunday Times is 2,650,584 weekly (7-day).
